The Session is made up of three classes (or groups) of
elders, each of which is elected by the church membership to serve a three year
term. Each year four new elders are
elected to serve beginning in January.
The twelve elders that serve on the church session exercise
authority and oversight over the policies of the church. They make plans and set a course for the
church as we serve in ministries in our own church body, our community and our
world.
The men and women of the elders board serve as advocates and
supporters of the ministry teams they
represent, along side of those who also serve on the teams and/or have an
interest in the various ministries.
The elders meet together monthly (4th Tuesday evening) at a
session meeting which is open to all members.
Every elder is eager to talk with you and answer questions, address
concerns, and hear thoughts that you might have about Covenant and how you
might become actively involved in the ministry that God has for you to do.
Deacons
Deacons serve as agents of care and concern for our church body. Like the elders, they are elected by the
church membership to serve a three year term.
Each year five new deacons are elected to serve beginning in
January. Every deacon has a parish group
(a list of families and individuals) who are members or friends of
Covenant. Some typical functions of
deacons at Covenant are to:
- ensure that each parish member
feels connected to the church
- remind and encourage parish members to participate
in church events
- check on parish members and their families
- provide help in times of crisis by assisting with
meals, transportation, finances, etc. to help families and individuals get
through a rough time.
